Preview: Debenhams AW12 Daywear

We were delighted to be invited to the Debenhams Autumn/Winter 2012 Press Day in Bloomsbury a couple of months ago.  The new collections are just fabulous, full of colour and texture, in both womenswear and home.  There were also some gorgeous new beauty products and launches; and bags and shoes to die for!

Lara's reaction to the first room:
"Dollies got no shoes on, Mummy!"

Black and grey are, as so often is the case, the erm new black for Autumn/Winter, but punctuated with lots of jewel colours in shades of purple, orange and red; different, quite muted, shades of silver and gold; and lots of pattern and texture.

Debenhams is of course well known for its longstanding, competitively-priced 'Designers at ...' ranges, by the likes of Jasper Conran, John Rocha, Matthew Williamson and Pearce Fionda, and they certainly didn't disappoint, in daywear, eveningwear or accessories.

Silver dress by Jasper Conran, £75

Floral Dress by John Rocha, £55

Designers at Debenhams has also signed up some hot new talent in recent years, such as the rather edgy Henry Holland.  He crosses the line from street to high fashion and his AW12 looks are funky but highly wearable, for both London fashionistas and suburban yummy mummies.  I love the animal motifs in these two H! looks.

Leopard jumper, £40; leggings, £15

Owl jumper, £38; check skirt, £35

"It's about beautiful contrasts of textures,
quilting, leather and faux fur and wonderful prints,
Autumn Winter 2012 has a truly modern feel."
- John Rocha

Now I don't know about you, but I absolutely adore winter coats, and could quite happily buy one in every design and colour.  (You may in fact remember my adoration of the beautiful Lands End ones last month.)

This is a passion which stems, I'm sure, from a brief but particularly engaging love affair with a palest sky blue soft wool Calvin Klein fitted number, with the merest hint of military styling, which I came across in Moscow's GUM in the winter of 2000.  Alas, by the time I had gathered enough money for it, the last one had been sold and no more could be ordered in to Russia.  That was a grey day indeed.

Anyway, I digress.  The coats Debenhams presented for next season are just divine, and these two went straight to the top of my wish list!

Jonathan Saunders Edition

"I focussed my designs on a tailored and smart woman,
using a colour combination of red and black
to give a strong but feminine message.
My designs were inspired by Japanese culture."
- Jonathan Saunders

There were so many more beautiful dresses, coats and outfits, but I hope I've given you a little taster of what to expect to see at Debenhams come September.

What do you think?  Any must-haves there for you?
