Review: The Green Board Game Company

We recently received some games from The Green Board Game Company to review, including the rather fabulous Syl-la-bles. Steve and I played it (with wine, oops!) the other night and had a great laugh. The object of the game is to spell out the longest word you can think of that begins with the letter you have landed on.

You get points for each letter, and 50 points for each syllable, so obviously the longer and more complex the word the better. But do you risk a tricky word which you may misspell, or do you stick with something shorter you are certain of getting right? It’s kind of like extreme Scrabble!

I have to admit our wine consumption probably didn’t ensure the best trial run of the game and our scores were rather paltry! However, I think this game is one which will last and last, to be taken out time and again. It will also be invaluable in years to come for our home education experience, such a fun way to learn spellings and think about syllables, and word construction.
There is also a Thesaurus space where you must come up with a word with similar meaning to the card, a great learning resource in itself.  This is really going to stand our family in good stead for years to come, and could be quite inteeresting with the Christmas port!  Love it!

Syl-la-bles is suitable for 2 to 8 players, from age 8 up, and retails at around £20.00

The Green Board Game Company sells a wide range of games and puzzles, from packs of snap cards in fun designs to family board games.  The Horrible Histories range looks great fun, especially.  Do have a browse of their website, as there are some lovely, and unusual, Christmas gifts to be had.

The Green Board Company have also sent me a couple of items to give away to my lovely readers:

1 copy of Extreme Dot to Dot: Explorers
Exercise your brain with these complex picture puzzles ranging from 500 to over 1,400 dots. These books are extremely rewarding and great brain exercise.  Suitable for older children and adults.  RRP £5.50

1 game of Brain Box Farmer's Market
Eye catching, child-friendly graphics at a great price make this a great gift for younger children. Includes four double-sided boards with two levels of play. Players match animal images to their names.  Suitable for 2-4 players, aged 3+.  RRP £7.00

To win one of these prizes, you must tell me which one you would like to win and like Brain Box Games on Facebook.  You can then get up to 8 additional bonus entries via the Rafflecopter below.

The competition ends at midnight on Tuesday 30th October, and the prizes will be dispatched soon after.

And don't forget to enter our competitions!
