We were very sad to learn yesterday that CBeebies longest-standing presenterng, Sid Sloane, has announced his plans to leave CBeebies in the New Year.
Having starred on the British children's television channel since its inception in 2002, Sid will officially be leaving his role in April 2013. This announcement follows recent news of Sid's latest engagements, presenting the brand-new programme for pre-schoolers, Let's Play - from Zodiak Kids' The Foundation in collaboration with CBeebies - and a LIVE nationwide tour of his own show, Sid's Show, which is currently touring the UK.
Commenting on this new development, Sid says:
"I never dreamt I'd end up staying with CBeebies quite so long but it has been a truly amazing journey! The past eleven years have given me the space to grow and develop as a performer and a presenter. I feel that the time has now come to step outside CBeebies to explore new opportunities."
Adding, "It's not really goodbye as I will still be popping up on CBeebies but I'll also be enjoying the opportunity to pursue some new challenges."
This Christmas, Sid will appear as Jack in Jack & the Beanstalk, for both the CBeebies live pantomime and for Evolution Productions at The Ashcroft Theatre, Croydon. He will also be making an appearance on the Christmas episode of Celebrity Mastermind.
Let's Play is a new series from Zodiak Kids' The Foundation and CBeebies which inspires pre-schoolers to discover the world through creative role play and dressing up. The series will began airing on 14 November 2012. Each episode sees the presenters embark on an adventure in an animated world where they take on the role of a colourful character.
Sid's Show is a brand-new live children's show which encourages interactive participation. Receiving its official Premiere in Brighton on 30 October, the extensive tour will encompass over 30 venues across the UK. The tour will begin its second-leg from February, running through until June 2013. For full tour schedule visit: www.sidsloane.org
Lara adores Sid, and is absolutely delighted with the new show, Let's Play. I think his appeal, and no doubt his longevity on CBeebies, is down to his happy disposition and good humour, but moreover a refusal to talk down to children. Lara loves his presenting spots, and his fun songs and raps, which she used to get excited about even when she was really tiny! We'll miss you Sid!
