Review: Perdita's Personalised Bunting

We have recently been given the most wonderful room decorations for the girls: felt bunting with the letters of their names stitched on and beautifully decorated.  Lara absolutely adores hers, and I'm sure Sophia will too, after all, who doesn't love something handmade with their name on, whatever age they are.

Making a Splash with Next

The advent of warmth and sunshine naturally turns our thoughts to the beach, and what to wear.  Last year Lara had some lovely swimwear from Next, so we were eager to see what their children's swimwear range would be like this year.  We weren't disappointed.

Book Review: Nine of Russia's Foremost Women Writers

"To serve, just to serve, to have no meaning, to stand in the common ranks, to assert nothing, to deny nothing, to keep out of the big picture, never to speak on a platform or lead anyone into battle – the most ordinary existence, which can hardly be to anyone’s credit."

Fiction Fridays: Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus

Our first Fiction Friday is an absolute cracker. It was one I picked up for pennies during the sad demise of British Bookstores last year and wasn't quite sure about, but Lara discovered it in the bookcase a few weeks ago and absolutely loves it.

How to Keep Your Home Under Control

Friends and family reading this may well be forgiven for thinking who am I to be offering up tips for housework, as it is not entirely unknown that I really don't like doing it.  But please bear with me.

Let's Make April Mummy's Month

Ten days ago I suggested the idea of a whole month of pampering and treats for us mums, just one little thing a day to make us feel cherished and fabulous!

I've had quite a few ideas for Mummy's Month which are listed below. Surprisingly (or maybe not!) there's a definite theme of free time, peace & quiet, wine and chocolate...

Meal Planning Monday: Week 1

A week or two ago we realised that we were beginning to get into a bit of a rut with cooking and really felt that we needed to do something about it.  I remembered reading some time ago that the average family relies on ten or less dishes, which are rotated and adapted regularly to feed the family.  A quick bit of research turned up this article which also says that most people have eight recipe books, but have only attempted five of the recipes!

My Week in Tweets

Jo over at Slummy Single Mummy has had a fab idea, My Week in Tweets. For those not familiar with the joys of Twitter (definition: way to lose hours of your life finding out all sorts about all kinds), each message has a limit of 140 characters, so (in theory) what you write will be pithy and to the point. It also uses #hash tags to flag up themes or the most interesting parts of your message, often to be amusing (we hope!)

The Gallery: Colour

I've recently stumbled across something called The Gallery on other blogs, Tara's idea on Sticky Fingers, and have decided to join in.

This week's theme is colour, so here are a few images which sum up colour in my life.

Spring Bucket List

Now that Spring has officially sprung, we've decided to follow the American idea of making a seasonal bucket list. For those unfamiliar with the concept, this is a list of things you wish to accomplish over the next three months, as the days get longer and the weather (hopefully!) gets warmer.

Mother's Day

Had a bit of a down weekend, but was massively cheered by my first handmade Mother's Day card. Lara went to toddler group with Daddy on Wednesday and spent ages making it "just right" apparently - bless!

How about a Mother's Month?

Having had the luxury of a whole quiet hour to myself in Costa yesterday afternoon whilst the two bubs slept, I got to thinking about treats. Steaming coffee, a brownie and the new "Mother & Baby" magazine all in peace and quiet was a lovely, but all too rare, treat. Just like it is for all you other busy mummies out there. All too often the day dissolves in a mass of commitments to everyone else, childcare, work, laundry, cleaning, cooking, chores and errands. Where are we in all that?
