Last night I had the misfortune to see a couple of minutes of the end of a Ricky Gervais gig on the television. In the seconds that I saw the ghastly, talentless man told a 'joke' about paedophilia. To be honest, I'm still in shock now.. It was truly disgusting and I was utterly appalled, still am.
I have never liked the man, nor found him remotely amusing, but this 'joke' was really beyond the pale. To be honest, I would think it was a punishable offence, but maybe that's wishful thinking.
Like a number of other talentless 'personalities', this man 's fame appears to me to be part of Emperor's New Clothes Syndrome. No-one is willing to stand up and point out exactly how talentless Gervais, Jonathan Ross (currently attempting to redeem his reputation yet again), Russell Brand, Charlie Brooker, and many, many more pointless 'celebrities' are.
If only our society recognised and acknowledged genuine talent, instead of those in the right place at the right time, or with the right celebrity mates. What a shame.
