Global Kids Fashion Week

After sighing over the beautiful clothes in my earlier post, and comparing my wardrobe to Lara and Sophia's, I know who's getting the better clothes deal in our house! I don't know about you, but my children are dressed significantly better than me!!

With the girls' wardrobes containing all pristine new clothes, top end labels and beautifully co-ordinated outfits, my clothes collection is a very poor comparison to theirs!  And I understand from a quick straw poll that I am not alone.  But this discrepancy really should come as no surprise to me after admiring all the amazing fashion shoots in Junior magazine and the like each month.  And now the mini fashionistas even have their very own Fashion Week!

The first event of its kind, Global Kids Fashion Week will be staged in London from 18-20 March 2013.  With fashion shows and a multitude of activities, stylish parents and their even more stylish offspring "can experience a playful performance of current and next season trends in children’s fashion."

Children's high end and luxury fashion is BIG business in the UK, with the market valued at a whopping £6.5 billion in 2011, according to The Telegraph today.  With unique boutiques, fantastic online stores, and London giants Liberty, Harrods and Selfridges all devoting significant store and web space to childrenswear, scaled-down collections from the designers are difficult to ignore.  Gaultier and Burberry are just two designers to bring their celebrated style to childrenswear.

Global Kids Fashion Week will read like a who's who of top international designers, with Chloe, Paul Smith, Fendi, Missoni and many more amongst those lined up to show.  There will be two catwalk shows during the Kids Week event, a media show previewing the AW13 trends from the designers, and a second show for the public which will feature the current SS13 collections.

Proceeds from the sale of tickets for the public show will go to Kids Company, the charity led by legendary Camila Batmanghelidjh, which supports vulnerable inner-city children.  Kids Company volunteers will also be helping out backstage at the public show, whilst the models will all be volunteers, many from London dance and drama schools.

AlexandAlexa, the sponsor of Global Kids Fashion Week, is an online childrenswear retailer with 850 million users worldwide, who love its eclectic mix of the latest designer childrenswear, baby essentials and must-have toys.  With everything from big boys trousers to the latest Lego; dolls houses to this gorgeous Gaultier tutu dress, this is a real one stop shop for everything your little prince or princess requires and desires.

Founded six years ago by husband and wife team Alex Theophanous and Alexa Till, the site now sells more than 200 brands.  Theophanus has been overwhelmed by the positive reaction to the idea of Global Kids Fashion Week, and plans to make it an annual event.  This year, a few hours after the public catwalk show, an edited video will be streamed on the AlexandAlexa website, allowing customers to click and buy the clothes they see on the catwalk.  I think I may have to stay away from the computer that night!!
