Book Review: Dear Zoo Spin and Say by Rod Campbell

This new take on the 30 year old classic Dear Zoo takes all the elements of the lift-the-flap bestseller that have delighted generations of toddlers and gives them a whole new, well, spin!

In a fab new interactive format, Dear Zoo Spin and Say by Rod Campbell is sure to be a massive hit with older babies and toddlers familiar with the format.  Featuring two spinners, the book asks young readers to identify the animals from the original book by body parts.  It then goes on to a counting game and two 'name the animals' games.  Of course, you don't have to do what the book says, we have come up with all sorts of different variants on these pages.  The last double page asks young readers to name the colours.

What colour?

The book is perfect for teaching simple concepts, first words, numbers and colours to toddlers and pre-schoolers.  the sturdy pages are packed with everyone's favourite animal friends from Dear Zoo, as well as new wild animals and pets, and there's a different question on every spread.  How many?  Who's the animal?  What colour?  Simply spin the wheel, point and say!

What are we called?

All in all this book is great fun, and open-ended enough to come up with lots of different ideas for the spinner games and pictures.  A brilliant early learning spinner book suitable from 6/12 months+ but also flexible enough to be fun to read and play with 3-5 year olds.

How many?

Dear Zoo Spin and Say is widely available now, RRP £9.99

  4. After reading your review through the week, I popped into town this morning and bought a copy for my youngest daughter (and a book each for my other 3 as you do to save the 'Mam, that isn't fair!'!! lol!) Anyway, she loves it so I am very pleased! Thank you!
