DVD Review: The Smurfs 2

"They're short and blue and back for 2!"

Well, who could resist?!  After the exuberant joy and craziness of the first Smurfs movie, which Lara absolutely adored, we couldn't resist the opportunity to review this one.  This time the evil wizard Gargamel (the fabulous Hank Azaria) creates a pair of mischievous Smurf-like creatures (the naughties, Hackus and Vexy), hoping they will help him capture the magical Smurf-essence.

He soon realises that he needs the help of Smurfette, who knows the secret of how to turn the Naughties into real Smurfs!  They kidnap poor Smurfette from Smurf Village and take her to Paris, from where her three apple-high blue friends Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity must rescue her, with the help of their human friends, Patrick and Grace, and their dear little son, aptly named Blue!

This fun adventure guarantees laughs for all the family as well as a happy ending and lots of cuteness along the way.  Lara loved this film just as much as the first, and now Sophia is hooked too!  Great fun, and a welcome addition to any stocking on Christmas morning.

The Smurfs 2 has a running time of approximately 1 hour 45 minutes, and is rated U.

The film is released on Monday 2nd December 2013.
