Kitchens Through the Ages

Did you see that Tudor kitchen programme on television over Christmas?  The series is filmed just up the road from us at the Weald & Downland Museum, using an authentic Tudor kitchen situated there When I was teaching Tudor history we used to take a school trip there, and the children were absolutely fascinated with the open fires, bread ovens, and cooking, preserving and storing practices they learnt about there.  Certainly a far cry from our modern fitted kitchens!

In fact, it amazes me really how very recently our ideas of a modern kitchen and appliances came about, as this infographic illustrates:
