Review: Montagne Jeunesse Face Masques

Many of you will know that in my former carefree, time-rich, disposable income years I used to be a bit of a product queen, always investing money and time in the latest must-have beauty treatments and products.  Since the advent of the smalls began a few years ago, such things have generally gone out the window, and the prospect of a beauty treatment or even time for a home facial is as much a figment of the imagination as goblins!  Thankfully, popular beauty brand Montagne Jeunesse have come to the rescue with a selection of lovely facial treats.

Containing a range of delicious-sounding products like coconut, manuka honey, pomegranate, they sound good enough to eat!  With clear instructions on skin type, use and application, each mask is individually packaged and retails at around £1.49 each.  This makes such indulgent luxury an affordable weekly treat, perfect for calming and purifying the skin, and hopefully undoing all the lack of care that most mums' skin goes through the rest of the week.  The prospect of lying down on the sofa for ten minutes or so was the best bit about it though, not usually something in my mummy radar, certainly not by myself anyway!

The first face mask I tried was the Brazilian Mud Fabric Masque, which is an actual bamboo cloth mask infused with the ingredients, which include Pressed Acai Berries (a superfood I believe) and avocado.  Promising nourishing and replenishing effects, I was very excited about my first face mask in ages and ages, and this really did feel indulgent.  I have been treated to cloth masks at the spa, but never at home, so this felt like the most amazing treat - and that child-free 15 minutes was bliss!  I did have a couple of cats lying on my tummy, but hey ho.

Inspired by "the lush vegetation of vibrant Brazil", this purple Brazilian mud mask is rich in magnesium to cleanse and stimulate the skin, whilst the antioxidants from the Acai berries (told you) and the vitamins from the avocado help fight free radicals.  And all you have to do is take the mask out of the packet, apply to face and lie down.  Bliss!
I loved how the mask left a residue behind on the skin which you then massage in before rinsing off.  It left my skin feeling plumped and super smooth and moisturised, just lovely.  Highly recommended, and such good value for money.  For a weekly self-indulgent treat, it is worth popping a few of these in your basket next time you're shopping in Boots or Superdrug.

All Montagne Jeunesse masques have different effects, but all are full of the most delicious and natural ingredients, and the face masques are just the start of it as they offer "a complete range of top to toe beauty treats, good for your skin, your wallet and the earth!"  I remember when Montagne Jeunesse first launched back in the 1980s as they caused quite a stir with their vegetarian, and often vegan, products and commitment to never use products or ingredients tested on animals.  As a passionate teenage anti-cruelty campaigner this really struck a chord with me, and I am delighted to see they haven't wavered from their commitments 25 years later.  You can read more about the company's values here.
I'm certainly looking forward to trying out all the other masques and products I've been sent over the next few weeks, a perfect little weekly indulgence we can all afford.  And a great excuse for us time-poor mums to grab some me-time!

If you have an Instagram account, you can also enter the current Montagne Jeunesse competition.  Just take a selfie wearing your favourite MJ masque, post it to Instagram, tag it #MJSelfie and you could win some fabulous MJ goodies every week!
