Review & Competition: Miffy Books Re-Issued

Lara and Sophia both adore Miffy, the cute little bunny lovingly drawn by Dutch author and artist Dick Bruna.  This classic children’s character and style icon is currently being celebrated with an exhibition in her home town of Utrecht, and Waterstones are offering one family the opportunity to win a weekend in Amsterdam, with a day trip to Utrecht.  See below for how to enter.

Some of the classic Miffy books are being republished this year, and there are some fab new sticker books too. 10 of the iconic books have already been republished, including Miffy, Miffy at the Zoo, Miffy’s Day and Miffy’s Birthday.

We have been sent Miffy's Garden and Miffy Outdoors Sticker Scene Book to review, and the girls are delighted!  We have been growing carrots from seed on the balcony and involving the girls in every stage, so to see Miffy growing her own carrots from seed, watering, tending, picking, preparing and eating them, is very exciting for them, and something they can really relate to.

The adorable line drawings are simple as ever, but exquisitely drawn and the bright, bold colour palette really appeals to little ones - and adults!

Sophia seized the book immediately for a good read with her breakfast:

The sticker book is a great idea too, with a selection of stickers in the middle, and pages about all of Miffy's outdoor adventures.  The camping page was where Lara immediately headed - I think I'm going to have to swallow my abhorrence of camping and go canvas!

There are also garden, zoo, seaside and farm pages, amongst others.  We have ended up with flying pigs and flowers growing upside down, but the girls had great fun putting all the stickers in, talking about the different places, and answering the questions on the pages.

The next batch of books set for re-release, including Miffy’s First Day, Draw with Miffy and Miffy Outdoors, will be available on 14th August in Waterstones and all good bookshops.  To celebrate, Waterstones is running a competition to win a weekend in Amsterdam for a family of four, which includes a day trip to Miffy’s home town of Utrecht to see the Dick Bruna exhibition. The competition runs throughout August and is open to Waterstones loyalty card members only (customers can sign up for a loyalty card in any Waterstones branch or online at The winning prize for a family of 4 includes flights from a UK airport, 2 nights in a hotel in Amsterdam, plus rail tickets to Utrecht and free entry to the Dick Bruna exhibition.
