The rumour mill is whirring with news of the 2014 Dr Who Christmas Special. Now as much a Christmas staple as the tinsel and turkey, families across the land will be crowding around the magic box in the corner on Christmas night to see just what the Doctor and his companion Clara Oswald (Jenna Coleman) have been up to.
After only a handful of episodes as the new incarnation, Peter Capaldi has brought a welcome quirky gravitas to his role as a slightly darker Doctor, for many a welcome change from the rather lightweight Matt Smith. While the new Doctor still seems slightly confused and disoriented by his latest regeneration, fans wait with bated breath to see just how dark he will go.
A host of British acting talent is set to appear this Christmas, including Nick Frost, star of Spaced, Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz, and Paul, which he also wrote.
“I'm so thrilled to have been asked to guest in the Doctor Who Christmas Special, I'm such a fan of the show. The read-through was very difficult for me; I wanted to keep stuffing my fingers into my ears and scream 'No spoilers!' Every day on set I've had to silence my internal fan-boy squeals!"
Steven Moffat, lead writer and executive producer, says:
“Frost at Christmas - it just makes sense! I worked with Nick on the Tintin movie many years ago and it's a real pleasure to lure him back to television for a ride on the TARDIS.”
The Christmas special will also mark the return to acting of Michael Troughton (The New Statesman), son of second Doctor Who incarnation, Patrick.
This action-packed Christmas cracker will air this Christmas on BBC1, and is set to be a highlight of the festive season's TV schedule. A truly unmissable adventure. Can't wait!
The current series of Doctor Who will end on 8th November.
