Keeping Motivated in the Winter Months

The clocks are going back this weekend, so most of us are going to start hibernating.  But with the dark days ahead, how can we stay motivated?  Here are some ideas.

With the weather turning colder and the days getting shorter, it's hard to find the motivation to plan anything other than hiding away under your duvet. Although it might not seem like it, now is the key time to get planning for the New Year, a fresh start and the new opportunities that await you. Take your mind off the icy paths and the rain lashing at the windows and instead do a little more positive thinking and look ahead to the future.

New Year, New You

Now is the perfect time to start thinking about that healthy living plan you keep putting off. Look into the opportunities in your local area such as gyms and classes and make an appointment to enquire about how they can suit you. Why not consider taking an evening class to gain a new skill or take up a new hobby. A healthy body goes hand in hand with a healthy mind, so be sure to choose an activity that you enjoy and will boost your happiness.

Take a Trip

What better way to get through a dull rainy day than to spend it dreaming about your upcoming holiday? The prospect of a break away from the humdrum of everyday life will lighten the load of wintery days and give you something positive to concentrate on. Whether it's a trip abroad or a group break in the UK such as a Park Resorts getaway, holidays are the perfect way to keep you busy and motivated with lots to plan and arrange.

Work on a Project

In the winter months we often find ourselves confined indoors due to the adverse weather conditions outside, but this doesn't have to be a negative. Is there a neglected project that you keep putting to the back of your mind? Maybe a room needs a lick of paint or livening up a little, there’s no time like the present and this is the best time to get stuck in and rejuvenate your home. Sort out all those old clothes you've accumulated and give them to charity - you'll be doing a good deed, as well as clearing up all that wasted space in your wardrobe – and just in time for the January sales!

Family Time

Use this occasion to spend some quality time with your family and plan some activities together. Why not rally the whole family together for a film night in front of the fire on a chilly evening, or get the board games out for a traditional get together - it can be more fun than you think! Have everyone write down their top five New Year's Resolutions and lock them away to be re-opened this time next year to see who (if anyone!) has stuck to them!

  1. I'm having to work really hard to keep my motivation up at the moment, I'm a zero hours contract job, and have been applying to other jobs for ages, but now I really don't feel like doing it. Must Stay Positive!!

  2. Planning a trip can be a fantastic way to lift your spirits, whether is a weekend away in the UK or an extended trip abroad, it gives you something to look forward too when the nights are drawing in and the weather is bitter outside.
