Valentine's Day Gift Guide (Part One)

While it seems hardly five minutes since all the Christmas shopping was finally done and wrapped, hot on its heels is that Cupid-led celebration of love, Valentine's Day.  Love it or hate it, if you have a significant other you are probably expected to make some kind of commercial gesture.  With less than three weeks until the 14th February, here's our guide to some of the best gifts around.

First of all, if chocolate be the food of love, read on...

We love these gorgeous chocolate treats from the delightful Artisan du Chocolat.  Whether you go for the full glorious hamper above, or the adorable tin below, they are sure to be very well received.  Prices start at £10.

Talking of hearts, Guylian have launched a special edition heart-shaped box for V Day containing their distinctive roasted hazelnut praline in a voluptuous heart shaped chocolate.  Priced £3.99, the 105g special edition box is widely available, as is the rest of the Guylian range which includes new flavours like caramel too.  And did you know about Guylian’s commitment to conservation?  They have been supporting Project Seahorse, which is dedicated to preserving seahorses and other marine life throughout the world, since 1999.  This vital long-term support is helping conserve magical but fragile seahorses who function as a flagship species since they are a good indicator of healthy coastal ecosystems, meaning that saving the seahorses = saving the seas!  You can find out more at www.projectseahorse.org.

If you fancy getting under the water with your beloved, how about a scuba diving lesson for two?  Just one of the many fantastic opportunities available from experience specialist Into The Blue.  If that doesn't float your erm ... fin, how about a wine tasting day?  Other options include spa days, afternoon tea for two, or even falconry!  There's sure to be something that appeals to you and your beloved here.

If good drinking is your thing, how about his and hers gin?!  The new special limited edition Bloom and Thomas Dakin gins have Valentine's Day sorted!  And you could even try some of the cocktail recipes we featured at Christmas.

Bloom Gin is a floral London Dry Gin with flowers of chamomile and honeysuckle and the citrus fruit pomelo making up the three main botanicals. This limited edition bottle comes with a neck tag that can be personalised, and a cutesy pink bow!  Available from Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Ocado, price from £24.00.  Thomas Dakin Gin is a classic style London Dry Gin launched last year, distilled in small batches in a baby copper still. It is available from Waitrose and Booth’s, priced from £29.00.

If you are buying for a bath-lover, this treat of a gift from Aromatherapy Associates will go down a storm.  Such a treat!  You could also treat your loved one to the classic dozen red roses, just perfect.  Or combine with beautiful lilac freesia for a blast of scent on a wintry day, just gorgeous.

Or how about one of these other floral gifts from Debenhams Flowers?  We love the exquisite pink tulips of the With All My Heart gift, and the aptly named Designer Goddess bouquet is just divine!  (Steve, are you reading this?!)

If you fancy a floral gift that will last longer than a bouquet, Emma Bridgewater is the place to head.  We're completely in love with this new wallflower pattern, so adorable.  Prices from £14.95.
