Eating Out with Kids: The Brasserie, Tregenna Castle Resort, St Ives (Review)

The first night we stayed at the Tregenna Castle Resort we were invited to dinner at the hotel in the Brasserie.  This beautifully appointed room has views out across the grounds, down to the sea and to St Ives, and is decorated in a deep sea blue, with touches of sky blue and silver.  There is also a lovely outdoor terrace with outstanding views.  The Brasserie serves a contemporary, largely Mediterranean-inspired menu based around fresh, locally-sourced food.  Read on to see what we ate...

The girls decided they wanted to dress up for their evening out, so donned a selection of tutus!

The space-themed activity bags went down well and kept the littlies occupied until the starters arrived.

The children's menu starters included Soup of the Day with Ciabatta; Garlic Dough Balls and Healthy Fingers (vegetable crudites with a yogurt dip).  All three opted for the dough balls, which came with a very garlicky butter that Tatiana couldn't get enough of!

The adult starters included Mackerel Fillet, Scallops, Crab Arancini Balls and a home-made tregenna Scotch Egg amongst others, but for us veggies there was only the soup or a delicious Vegetarian Bruschetta.  Garlic-rubbed fresh ciabatta, lightly toasted and topped with salad leaves, tenderstem broccoli, garlic-infused mushrooms and crumbled feta, with a drizzle of balsamic reduction, it was a delicious and substantial starter.

Our olive-mad gang made light work of the dish of marinated olives.

The children's main course choices included pizzas, pastas, chicken goujons, sausages etc.  Lara chose the tomato pasta, Sophia the cheesy pasta and Tatiana the margherita pizza, all of which were well-seasoned and tasty.

I managed to forget to photograph my own pizza, not sure how that happened, but it was Mediterranean Vegetable from their own pizza oven.  A super-thin base topped with sun-dried tomatoes, roasted courgette, and caramelised onions, with a tomato sauce base and topped with mozzarella and a sprinkling of feta.  Steve chose the Riviera Veggie Burger, a delicious burger made from fresh vegetables, served in a brioche bun, with generous salad and fries accompaniments.

Other adult mains included a Home-made Fish Stew or Fish Pie, Cajun Steak Fettuccini, steaks, burgers, salads and other pizzas.  We're not normally dessert people, but when we saw how stunning they were going out to other tables, we couldn't resist!  Sophia and Tatiana chose a simple scoop of rich, dairy ice cream each, and Lara had a chocolate brownie sundae about the size of her head!  But here are the desserts Steve and I were treated to...

Chocolate & Orange Cheesecake with Orange and Mascarpone Ice Cream

Chocolate Brownie with Salt Caramel, Caramelised Banana and Mascarpone Ice Cream

The perfect end to a meal!
