Christmas Gift Guide: For Cooks

It's that time again!  I'm not sure how Christmas has come round so quickly, but here we are with just 6 weeks to go so it is time to start thinking about gifts.  (Yes I know some of you will be done already, so maybe have a look for yourself instead!)  We'll be publishing a new gift guide each weekday, with lots of lovely things perfect for everyone on your list.  Today we're focussing on the cooks and those kitchen supremoes.

Attachment Mummy readers went crazy for Sainsbury's gorgeous copper kettle last year, so I was delighted to see similar this year, in the form of this whole range from Aldi.  They're in store now, so get them before they sell out!

Also at Aldi is this lovely marble effect range, which includes bread bins, storage jars and more.  This would look fabulous in an all-white kitchen.

At Lakeland, there's more copper but also a lovely range of ceramic bakeware, perfect for lasagne or quiche.  We love this smart oven to tableware, so useful.

We also love this range of Oxo Good Grips bakeware which promises not to warp, scratch or stain.  Available from Lakeland, prices start at £17.99 and you can currently get a second item for half price, a fantastic gift for any aspiring Great British Bake Off candidate!

If spice is more your recipient's thing, this lovely Authentic India range from Anjula Devi is perfect.  We love the masala dabba with all the spices you need, it smells divine.  Just the thing for whipping up a spicy storm in the kitchen.

In a busy family kitchen, non-stick cookware is a practical must.  The new Stellar Rocktanium frying pans (such a cool name!) ensure healthier cooking results and make for much easier cleaning.  These heavy duty pans have a distinctive 'stone' finish coating which is PFOA-free, scratch-resistant, and guaranteed for an impressive five years.

The range comprises of five frying pans, ranging in size from 20cm to 30cm, which are suitable for use on any hob type, including the increasingly popular induction, and because each pan has a comfortable hollow cast riveted handle for strength and stability, they can be used in the oven up to a temperature of 210°C.  Widely available, prices start at £28 per pan.

Lugging out the full size food processor can sometimes make cooking feel like a chore, but with the handy new Judge Mini Food Processor you can chop, blitz and blend without a huge pile to wash up afterwards.  We all know that a food processor is one of the handiest tools in the contemporary chef’s arsenal, making short work of what used to be time-consuming and tedious tasks.  But with kitchen space at a premium, finding a food processor that will deliver all the power of a larger model, with a small percentage of the footprint.

The Judge Mini Food Processor chops finely and coarsely, purees, blends and more, making everything from cauliflower couscous to soup as easy as, well, pie.  With just four easy clean parts, this will be a must-have in the kitchen without compromising on worktop or cupboard space.  The Judge Electric IL Glass Bowl Mini Chopper retails at £39.20.

If someone on your list has always wanted to make their own chocolate, get them the award-winning CHOC Chick Starter Kit, an ideal introduction to raw chocolate making that is suitable for vegans, vegetarians, and everyone else!  The kit has enough ingredients to make around 30-40 raw chocolates or truffles (mini cases included) or 3 bars (using simple plastic containers). Using ethically sourced finest, single origin, Nacional Arriba cacao from co-operatives in Ecuador, these simple recipes mean that anyone who loves chocolate can make delicious chocolates and truffles that are free from dairy, gluten, processed sugars, additives and guilt!  The CHOC Chick Starter Kit is an ideal stocking filler and the simplest way to discover the joys of raw chocolate making.

For quirky, not from the high street, gifts, head over to one of our favourite online shops: dotcomgiftshop.  We especially love their kitchen section which has lots of fun storage solutions, including these gorgeous airtight glass jars, perfect for dried goods in the kitchen.

The quirky vintage feel to their products makes them bang on trend, and with a wide variety of designs and patterns, they will fit into all types of kitchen.  My current favourite is the blue tit design, which we now have on storage jars, cake tins, notebooks and more.  And don't leave their site without checking out the stocking fillers and clearance sections.  I could spend hours looking at all the different goodies!

A staple of many a kitchen table for the past 35 years, the Dairy Diary is famous for its weekly triple-tested recipes, easy-to-prepare dishes that everyone will love.  With sales of over 30 million since its first edition, it’s Britain’s favourite home diary by far!  Packed full of useful information, important dates and with plenty of room to keep track of family life and important goings on, it is a must-have for anyone organising a busy life.  I have such fond memories of this diary, the only one my nan would have on her telephone table!  The 2017 Dairy Diary retails at a brilliant value £7.99.

For more of those great family recipes, the Dairy Diary have collated all their favourites from the past 35 years into the Dairy Diary Favourites cookbook.  With 100 of the best-loved recipes from the past decades, from speedy weekday meals to crowd-pleasing dishes for family and friends that will have them clamouring for more, there is something for everyone in this beautiful cookbook.  Priced £8.25, the Dairy Diary favourites cookbook would make a great stocking filler for anyone running their own kitchen.

Good knives are always top of a cook's wish list, and the new affordable, easy to sharpen range from Edge of Belgravia makes the perfect gift for any kitchen maestro.  With its bold, striking avant-garde design, the Precision range manifests the ideal combination of futuristic bold design and the superb cutting ability of an easy-to-sharpen stainless steel blade.  These efficient cooking tools are almost a work of art!

The futuristic look and hallmark handle design of these knives by London designer Christian Bird has even won a slice of the prestigious D&AD product design award.  Christian is thrilled by perfection, and here his design fuses the perfection of the diamond-like facet shape handle with a unique and carefully thought out blade design.  They are incredibly nice to hold and cut with, indeed after nearly 30 years as a chef, Steve pronounced them some of the nicest knives he has ever used.

The Edge of Belgravia Precision Cooking Knife Set makes an ideal gift for any cook, as it contains the two most important knives in the kitchen: the 19 cm Chef knife and the 10 cm Paring knife; the essential stepping stones to excellent cooking.

Who can resist a bit of Jamie in the kitchen?  We're loving the pretty pastel sea blue shade of his new bakeware range, a beautiful collection of baking tools and cookware that would make the perfect gift for any home baker. Available from Amazon, Debenhams and Ocado, prices start at just £3.99, so perfect for stocking fillers, or treat them to a selection, then sit back and wait to taste the delicious cakes that will be baked come new year!

Almost the same shade as the new Jamie Oliver range, the gorgeous Stackable Glass Storage Jars from Brabantia are such a useful thing to have in the kitchen.  Perfect for storing cakes, biscuits and more, they will keep your cookies fresh for longer with their airtight, soft seal lids.  The 2.5 litre stackable glass jar has a pretty mint lid, keeps contents visible at a glance, and saves space in the kitchen by stacking on top of one another.  The Brabantia Stackable Glass Storage Jar retails at £15.95 each.

For a bold splash of colour, or other fun colours and designs, the aprons from Lobster Homeware combine simple, unfussy design with practicality.  The machine washable cotton aprons include integrated oven gloves, which can be attached, detached, tucked away or placed in the apron's pockets.   No more frantic search for oven gloves when the timer pings!  Lobster aprons are height adjustable, and include a tea towel holder and even a pocket for their mobile phone.

Finally, if you know a cook who is calorie conscious and trying to watch what they eat, the NutriTab from Terraillon is just the thing.  This nutritional connected kitchen scale ensures you a long-term tracking of your energy intake, with a mobile app that allows you to scan barcodes of more than 40,000 foods and displays the energy values of those meals.  It intelligently weighs raw ingredients, then you select them in the database and the application indicates the nutritional composition of more than 1,400 foods.

NutriTab ensures you a long-term tracking of your energy intake: calories and the five main Recommended Daily Intake (RDI) food groups: proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fibre and sodium.  The scan function, in combination with the community database, helps monitor nutrition and health over time, the ideal thing for anyone trying to follow a healthier lifestyle or keep an eye on their intake of certain food types.  The Terraillon NutriTab kitchen Scales retails at £79.99.
