Film Review: My Little Pony The Movie

The much-anticipated My Little Pony movie is out tomorrow and it's brilliant!  We were invited to a special advance showing last weekend and the girls loved it.  All three (aged 3, 5 and 7) were entranced throughout, and can't wait to go and see it again next week.

Featuring the Mane 6: Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, and Rarity, along with sidekick Spike, the film focusses on a dark force threatening to take over Ponyville with darkness forever.

Twilight and her friends must embark on an unforgettable journey, travelling far beyond Equestria to seek help to defeat their foe.  Meeting new friends (and enemies) on the way and facing more than their fair share of challenges, their quest tests their friendship, their resolve, and their skills in equal measure.

On the way, they spread the Spirit of Friendship everywhere they go, show why being friendly is better than being unkind, and help others come to terms with their own challenges and problems.  Inspiring stuff!

Starring an all-star voice cast including Emily Blunt, Liev Schreiber, Michael Peña and Zoe Saldana, the movie features original music and songs performed by Sia, Diggs, Saldana, Chenoweth and Blunt.

Have a look at the trailer:

If you have (are) a My Little Pony fan, this is a must-see!  There is something magical about these cute little ponies and their stories.

Age suitability: 4+  The baddies, King Storm and Tempest Shadow, are pretty bad in a panto villain kind of way, but big and dark on the big screen, so if your child is very sensitive it may not be suitable.  Otherwise, if they are a fan of the series they will LOVE the movie.

A quick interview with the smalls:

Lara (7)  Best bit:everything; worst bit: nothing.

Sophia (5)  Best bit: when they are mermaids (above, SO cute!); worst bit: nothing.

Tatiana (3)  Best bit: Pinkie Pie being funny; worst bit: the rude girl [Tempest].

So there you go, see it!

My Little Pony: The Movie is released nationwide tomorrow, Friday 20th October.
