Review: Disney's Jake and the Neverland Pirates 'Who Shook Hook?' Game

Lara has seen Disney’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates a few times and thinks it is great fun, so she was delighted to be sent this new game which involves Jake and his young pirate friends trying to outwit that terrible, infamous villain Captain Hook.

The object of the game is to remove as much treasure from Hook's hammock as you can without waking him up!  You have a board, spinner, four playing pieces with bases, two palm trees, Hook's hammock, a sleeping Captain Hook figure, three barrels, three Tiki heads, three bags, three treasure chests, and a pair of tweezers, a fishing pole, a shovel, and a sword to help you remove the treasure.

Once the board is set up (a nice easy one to do, thankfully!), each player chooses a playing piece and a tool, and then takes it in turns to spin the spinner and move around the board.  They can then earn the chance to use their chosen implement to remove a piece of booty from Hook's hammock - but be careful not to shake the hammock and wake up the dastardly Hook!

Balancing the pieces on the hammock was a little tricky for Lara, so Steve did it for her, but she has a good, steady hand so had no problem taking the pieces off when it was her turn.  It is a great game for improving hand to eye co-ordination, and there is also a certain amount of strategising involved, for example in working out which pieces to take off the hammock first, or which implement might serve you better next time.  At the end of the game, whoever has the most treasure wins!

This game is aimed at children aged 4 years plus, although Lara is fine with it aged 3, and is suitable for 2 to 4 players.

Lara absolutely adores pirates generally, so this is a fantastic game for her, but it would generally be suitable for all young boys and girls, as well as Jake fans.  A brilliant Christmas present which will be played with again and again.  A really fun game, and highly recommended by us.

The Disney Jake and the Neverland Pirates Who Shook Hook? game retails at £19.99 and is available from all good toy stores.
