Review: Mega Bloks First Builders

Mega Bloks First Builders range was relaunched last summer and the girls were lucky enough to review a selection of products from the new range.  Sophia, then about 18 months old, has played with the toys and blocks pretty much every day since!  The range has now been expanded to include some excellent learning toys and more, and we have been sent a selection to play with.  Just look at Sophia's face when she saw what was in the box!  You might say she loves Mega Bloks!!

The biggest hit for both Lara and Sophia is the Mega Bloks First Builders Build 'N' Splash (RRP £14.99).  Bathtime has never been so fun!  With a red octopus with sucker to stick to the bottom or the side of the bath, you can then build on his back and make a waterfall feature with the other creatures in the set.  Great fun!  Plus they stack back in their sturdy draining basket afterwards.

There are two smaller learning sets, Mega Bloks First Builders Learn My Animals (RRP £4.99) and Mega Bloks First Builders Learn My Vehicles (RRP £4.99).  With these cute little cube sets, each of which has a lid which doubles up as a building base, your toddler can learn their first animals and first vehicles.  These make a great introduction to Mega Bloks First Builders, or would be a great complement to an existing collection.

In the animals set, match the adorable mummy and baby animals and then they can have their own jungle adventures, usually orchestrated by Lara with Sophia joining in enthusiastically in the tale being created!  Whilst the vehicles set provides great learning opportunities too, making the sound of the ice cream van, tractor or police car; and matching the two halves, or creating a whole new vehicle.  We have all had great fun inventing new vehicles and creating names and sounds for them.  These little sets are great value at £4.99 each!

Finally, the Mega Bloks First Builders 123 Learning Train (RRP £14.99) is a HUGE hit with Sophia.  Firstly because she now has her own special train to play with; a vehicle for teddies, dollies and any action character of Lara's she can get her hands on!  But also because it features the numbers 0 to 10 which she has recently conquered, so she can show off her new skill by counting along the train's side, even realising that the spots and marks on the other side of the train are equivalent to the Arabic numerals that she already recognises.

But beyond the learning opportunities, with its cute little station, this train is just great fun too.  Sophia loves it!

Mega Bloks First Builders products are widely available, including from Argos, Amazon, Sainsburys, Smyths Toy Stores and The Entertainer.  They are suitable for children aged 1 to 5 years, and are the perfect size for little hands!
