With all five of us being prone to eczema, finding laundry detergents that are both efficient at cleaning our clothes and don't aggravate our skin is sometimes hard work. Add to that the desire to use products that aren't tested on animals and have no impact on the environment, and we have a real conundrum. Luckily, we have found a new range of laundry detergents that work perfectly for us.
The Simply range of detergents is vegan (no animal ingredients or testing), eco-friendly, hypoallergenic and phosphate-free. Their Simply Pure detergent is allergen and fragrance-free, ideal for those with sensitive skin or eczema. It is also great for babies and children's clothes as their skin is so much more sensitive and prone to react to chemicals than adults.
Simply Pure is a globally patented formulation that is both safe next to the skin and works better than leading brands, but with no environmental impact. We put Simply Pure through its paces on the girls clothes after a busy afternoon exploring the local woods and found it removed marks and stains (mud, grass, juice) well. It also left their clothes feeling soft and didn't irritate their skin. Win, win!
The Simply Sensitive range has exactly the same cleaning power, but with the addition of a slight fragrance which research suggests many people prefer. We found the scent slightly artificial but not unpleasant, and even with the scent it didn't irritate mine or Steve's skin, although we didn;t wash the girls' clothes just in case.
Both are encased in unit dosed soluble powder sachets which you just pop into your washing machine drawer. I was a bit sceptical about using the powder blocks as I have found the plastic coating/wrap doesn't always dissolve, but with these it did, as long as they were placed right at the back of the drawer as instructed. Simply Pure and Simply Sensitive are available in 18 and 24 wash packs from Sainsbury’s, Holland & Barrett and Amazon UK
, priced around £14.98. We're definitely converted!
