Count Down to Christmas with This Year's Best Advent Calendars

The Christmas adverts are airing on TV, the shops are piling up the mince pies and tins of Quality Street, and even the most reluctant among us are beginning to think about Christmas presents.  The countdown has begun!  Advent may still be a few weeks off but the best Advent calendars will be sold out long before 1st December.  Here's our pick of the best.

You'll have to get your skates on for this one! Predicted to sell out this weekend, the Marks & Spencer Beauty Advent Calendar contains over £250 worth of products including brands such as Pixi, Nuxe, Ren, Korres, Gatineau and Leighton Denny, for just £35.

The stunning Look Fantastic Beauty Advent Calendar also includes a whopping £300+ of products, including 9 full size and 16 sample size products, all of which will see you through the party season in style.  All for just £79, or sign up to the monthly subscription box too and get 20% off.

If beauty's not your thing, but you'd still like a luxury Advent calendar to open, how about the gorgeous Yankee Candle Advent Wreath?  Filled with 24 tea light candles in popular Sparkling Cinnamon, Snowflake Cookie, Winter Glow and Macaron Treats scents, as well as new Spiced White Cocoa and The Perfect Tree (my favourite), your home will be full of Christmas all month long!

For something a bit different in the luxury line, treat a foodie you know to the amazing Spicers of Hythe Sharing Advent Calendar.  Containing 24 treats including cola bottles, rhubarb & custard, Christmas pudding fudge, handmade chocolate jazzies, orange mini bites, honeycomb chunks and more, there is a feast behind every door.  A treat for all the family.

Even with all this luxury, there is still a place for the traditional Advent calendar, with the excitement of seeing what picture is behind the door each morning, and there are some real treats from lovely independent designers this year.

We love this pretty Christmas Tree Advent Calendar from The Printed Peanut.  Behind each door is a wonderful collection of 24 baubles, decorations and other hidden gems to brighten each morning until Christmas.  (Have a look at Louise's delightful Christmas cards and wonderful retro gifts like this lovely Paper Doll Dress Up.)

Another new favourite of ours, the designers at Swiss Kiss.  Their lovely collection of Advent Calendars are available as cards to send, larger Advent calendars, and even yummy chocolate versions.  Dementia UK receives a portion of all sales, so you are doing good while getting a gorgeous calendar too.  We love the quirky designs and fun facts and surprises behind the doors.

This gorgeous Winter Wonderland scene is one of our favourites or, for something different, treat someone to a Twelvetide card like the St James' Park design below.

Twelvetide is another name for the Twelve Days of Christmas, with a door to open from Christmas Day on and the St James' Park design is based on an original embroidery by Heidi Rhodes, with 10 lords-a-leaping over the Serpentine bridge, and 12 drummers drumming in boats on the lake.

And what about the small people?  Of course, we aren't going to leave them out!

Most popular with our girls are the LEGO Advent calendars.  This year's LEGO Friends Advent Calendar has a winter ski theme to tie in with the new toy range.  With a snowman, a Christmas tree, assorted furry friends, and a Stephanie mini-doll figure in festive outfit, this will make a great addition to any LEGO collection.

LEGO Star Wars The Last Jedi Advent Calendar and LEGO City Advent Calendar are also available.

For younger children, the VTech Toot-Toot Animals Advent Calendar is a real treat.  Little ones can count down to Christmas Day with 24 fun play pieces including a cute Toot-Toot Animals Reindeer and baby, other cute critters, Christmas decorations and more.

The box panel folds down to become a Toot-Toot Animals play area, while the reindeer plays 3 Christmas songs, 6 festive melodies and has lots of fun sound effects.  He also responds to SmartPoint locations with different phrases, sound effects and more on all Toot-Toot Animals play sets (available separately).

And, if it really must be chocolate, Thorntons has the Gruffalo, The Snowman and Father Christmas, as well as some grown-ups ones, all of which can be personalised with the recipient's name.

For any young Teletubbies fan, this cute calendar is a sure-fire hit. A yummy chocolate a day and their favourite characters too, what's not to love! Widely available.

The cute Elf & Seek alternative Advent calendar from Little Treats Bakery contains 24 individually wrapped gingerbread elves which can be hidden around the house during December. Families can even enter photos of their elves using #ElfieSelfie to win a delicious hamper of biscuits. Buy your Advent gingerbread collection now on Amazon.

Happy Advent!
