Do your kids want to make some money this summer?

Most of us know the usual ways for kids to make money, which include lemonade stands, newspaper rounds and mowing lawns.

However, there are more unusual ways too, check out some of our kids summer business ideas below.

10 Ways Your Kids Can Make Some Extra Money this Summer

For a lot of kids, summer is all about having fun in the sun and relaxing.

But, for others, it can be a great chance to make some extra money . . . or even start a business of their own!

I thought I’d share some fun summer business ideas with you, just in case you have a child who is itching to fill their pockets with some extra cash to fund their Amazon wishlist or future goals.

When thinking of business ideas, I always tell people (regardless of their age) to ask themselves 3 questions:

1. What am I really good at?

2. What do I enjoy doing for hours on end?

3. What would people be willing to pay me for?

Then, all that’s left to do is find something that fits all 3 of those criteria.

For example, someone who has a green thumb and feels most at home when surrounded by plants would be really good as a plant sitter.

Older kids could offer their services in the neighbourhood to mow lawns, do some weeding and other odd jobs around the garden.

Here Are 9 Fun Ways Your Kids Can Make Money

To get your creative juices flowing, below are 10 business ideas that are perfect for young entrepreneurs:

1. Dog Walker

A lot of people have dogs, but don’t have the time or energy to take them for walks every day.

Offer to do it for them!

A personal services menu detailing all the services you offer, from washing windows for a few dollars or pounds, to walking a dog, make your price list.

Print out multiple copies and hand them out to all relatives and possibly neighbours, too.

2. Pet Sitter

People in your town probably have summer vacation plans . . . but may not yet have someone to take care of their pets while they’re away.

Your kids could offer to check on their pets every day to make sure they’re fed, watered, and walked.

3. Plant Sitter

Don’t forget about the plants!

When people go on vacation, they might be happy having some helping hands to make sure their indoor and outdoor plants survive the harsh summer heat.

4. Gardener

Gardening is very rewarding . . . but also a challenge!

See if anyone needs help weeding, planting, watering, or harvesting their garden.

Everyone wants their yard to look nice, but not everyone has the time or energy to do it.

Your kids might be able to help people with things like mowing and weeding, or more.

5. Mother’s Helper

A lot of busy moms could use some help around the house.

This could include hanging out with the kids, helping out in the kitchen, or doing things like laundry.

6. Babysitter

Does your child just love hanging out with other kids, or have a reputation as being the cool older kid who is fun and responsible?

They could be a great babysitter!

7. Lemonade Stand

This is a pretty classic summer business idea. Bake some cookies to go along with the lemonade.

You can even get creative with your lemonade flavours.

8. Computer Whiz-kid

Many kids know a lot about computers, and lots of adults don't!

Offer your services to show older people how to use a computer and the internet for a fee.

Learn a few more skills, and you can even set up computers for new owners who are using them for the first time.

Letting grandparents spread the word would be a good marketing ploy!

9. Rummage Sales and Flea Markets

If parents agree, kids can have rummage sales, selling not just household things, but arts and crafts and refreshments too.

Parents might even take their kids to a flea market to set up a stand. Cookies and drinks sell well too.

It’s a great way to learn about business, and a good way for kids to make money.

Good luck making some extra money this summer!
