10 Fun Ways to Give Your Homeschool a Quick Boost #homeschooling #homeschool #homeeducation #homeschoolmom #endofyear

Does your homeschool need a quick boost, an injection of fun and energy?

There are moments in every year when our homeschool gets a bit stale.

It starts to get a bit too much like hard work, everyone feels sluggish, and we just need something to pep homeschool up a bit.

That's the time to change things up, make it all a bit more exciting again, and give us all the energy to enjoy our homeschool days again.

Read on for 10 fun ways to give your homeschool a quick boost...

So, just what are these booster shots for homeschool and homeschooling parents?

No, we're not talking about immunizations, thankfully!

We are talking about booster shots for those families that have homeschooled for so long, or so in depth, that they have lost the joy of why they started this journey in the first place.

You may be one of those families that has been homeschooling for ages and you're going over the same material for the third time.

Or you may be new to the journey and have gotten in over your head and are wondering if this is the right choice.

Or maybe you've just homeschooled so many days it feels likea treadmill.

It's time to mix things up.

10 Fun Ways to Give Your Homeschool a Quick Boost

Any and all of us could use a Booster Shot at some point.

Here my top 10 ideas to give you homeschool a quick boost:

10. Field Trip!

Just a short one or maybe even a week long adventure.

It's your choice, but there is nothing like a field trip to break up the week and breathe life into a student's schedule.

Even better if it relates to something you have studied recently and can bring the subject alive.

Go and see some moon rock at the space museum, or visit a historical site to get a feel for the battle.

A field trip is the perfect way to make learning real and give your teaching, and your homeschool, a refresh.

9. Read Aloud!

If you dont already do this, its a good time to start when your battery is low.

You can read to them, or they can take turns reading to you and each other.

It's a great way to bond and relax. Yes, even high school kids like this still!

Buying a programme that is rich with great literature like Sonlight is a great way to start!

8. School Outside!

If the weather is warm enough, take your homeschool outside.

Take the books, the art, even the portable CD player, and learn outside.

Even better, just take a nature walk to study what is about to bloom and discuss the science of this blessing!

7. Combining 8 & 9!

Perhaps the easiest booster of all, just take a huge blanket out under the sun or in the shade of a tree and read the best books.

You can watch clouds, pet your dog or the kitties, and just enjoy hearing a good story in the fresh air.

6. Year-round School Schedule!

This SOUNDS awful to some people, but it doesnt t really mean school every single day!

You simply have more time to fit everything into your year, rather than aiming to finish school by a certain date.

Perhaps it means for each month of the year, you have school for 3 weeks and then one week off.

These schedules can often be planned around holidays.

If you and your student knew that every few weeks you both got a significant break, there is plenty fo time to plan more fun in, or just do NOTHING for a while every month!

5. Find a Co-op!

Many area support groups have some co-op learning classes. You could even start your own co-op!

Often it will require that you volunteer a bit of your time once in a while, but the change of pace and learning surroundings can be invaluable to both you and all students involved!

4. Let the Student Plan – not You!

Perhaps one of your children would love the freedom to plan her own Senior year completely.

Or perhaps they would like to incorporate unit studies into your homeschool with topics of their choosing.

This is a great way to motivate kids, and also teaches them accountability.

3. Let a Science Experiment evolve into more!

This is one surefire way to engage kids who are getting a little off track!

Take the science experiment to any lengths your child's questions or curiosity will let it go (as long as it's safe).

Not only do they learn more by not having to fit into a science box, but you will ignite the joy of learning again.

And it is wonderful to see how their minds work when unhindered by steps preordained by someone else!

2. Talk with others!

When you get the chance, ask other parents for ideas that may be inviting to your homeschool to use.

You may also be surprised how your kids react when they find out what other kids do for their homeschool.

My kids were actually pleasantly pleased when they heard the schedule and weight of some other homeschooled students their age!

1. My number 1 favourite!

Just take the day off (or the week) when you know you've all reached your limit!

Bake a big batch of cookies, play, make some crafts, make a mess, don't grade, don't file and don't worry.

Mix this in with prayer and thanksgiving that you have the chance to be home with your kids and I'll guarantee that an attitude of gratitude will renew that joy in your homeschool heart!
