Chad Valley Toys

Founded over 150 years ago in Harborne, Birmingham, Chad Valley is one of the UK’s oldest toy retailers.  They have supplied toys to eight generations of children, and many of us will fondly remember the Chad Valley toys of our childhood.  With more than 400 products now available exclusively at Argos stores nationwide, Chad Valley continue to offer affordable, durable and inspiring real toys for a new generation.

Fostering young children's imaginative play and creativity is key to Chad Valley's thinking, and they have just launched their Play Panel, a collective of family bloggers from all over the UK who have been invited to provide Chad Valley with product reviews, insight and play advice.  We are delighted to be joining them and will be bringing you reviews, ideas and competitions during the coming months.

To mark the launch of the Play Panel, with its emphasis on real play rather than electronic gadgets, Chad Valley asked a thousand children, and their parents, about their aspirations and hopes for the future.  Whilst many kids aspire to be the YouTubers and pop stars of the future, traditional 'When I grow up...' choices like teacher, vet and footballer still made the grade.

Our hopeful youngsters predicted that they would be in their dream job by age 21, and earning just under £250,000 a year doing it!  Wow.

The parents surveyed commented on the traditional 9 to 5 idea being a thing of the past, and the advance of technology and its affect on future job prospects.  Indeed, with modern technology revolutionising the workplace, 17% of kids ranked jobs in the tech industry, including video games, app development, computers and coding, as their favourite job area.

Andrea Derrick, Chad Valley marketing controller, commented:

“We commissioned this research to really understand children’s hopes for the future and found that we clearly have an ambitious nation of youngsters with wonderfully bright hopes and dreams. And parents are just as optimistic about what it holds for them.

Chad Valley has been selling toys to eight generations of children, fostering greater creativity and development by encouraging imaginative childhood play. So whilst these children may have to wait some time to land their dream jobs, we’re proud to continue providing affordable, quality and inspiring toys for them to enjoy along the way.”

Dr Jacqueline Harding, leading child development expert, joined her in saying:

“The young brain feeds on the processes of imagination - stimulating essential cognitive functioning when playing, so allowing children to play creatively is hugely important for their development. Times are changing and children are likely to have a very different future (economically and environmentally) and the need for problem solving will be a priority, so now really is the time to foster creativity and imagination.”
