Family-Friendly Hotels In Cornwall: Tregenna Castle Resort, St Ives

A few weeks ago we were guests of the beautifully-located Tregenna Castle Resort in St Ives, Cornwall.  Just a short walk from the town, Tregenna Castle is set on a hill top, with its 72 acres sloping down towards the sea.  The view from the 81 bedroom hotel itself is exquisite, but the resort also boasts 70 self-catering options to cater for a variety of guests' needs.

We stayed in one of the Japanese-inspired pole lodges, which are on the left and in the foreground of the photos above.  Ours was the last lodge, just a short walk away from the gate which leads out to St Ives itself.  This is our view back up to the hotel across the golf course:

With a large veranda downstairs and balcony above, both equipped with table and chairs, there was lots of space to sit outside and admire the frolicking bunnies in the evening and the bird life during the day.  Inside there was more space than in most residential homes, with four large double bedrooms, three huge en suite bathrooms and a sauna, comfortable sitting room, smart dining room and well-equipped kitchen.

Lara, randomly, decided to take up residence in one of the enormous under the eaves cupboards, making a snuggly space for herself and Sophia to camp out in.  Tatiana busied herself investigating every bed and bath in the place!  The jacuzzi baths were particularly popular with the girls each evening.

We could quite happily have spent all our time in the lodge, which would easily accommodate eight people for a fortnight with no worries about space or being able to busy yourselves.  The huge site offers plenty to do, with outdoor and indoor pools, croquet lawn, tennis courts and gym.  Unfortunately, the indoor pool was closed for maintenance the week we were staying, and it was a bit too nippy for the girls to use the outdoor pool, even though it is heated.  Maybe next time!

For the children, there is a lovely little playground with castellated turrets, which houses a climbing frame, slide and cubbies.  The girls loved this and played there for ages after we had dinner in the brasserie on our first night.  There is also a kids' club during holiday season and the Castle Kids creche all year round.

The huge site also has lots more to explore and beautiful gardens.  Such a beautiful setting and with lots of space to run around and explore, the girls loved it.  At night it was so quiet and dark, we all had fantastic sleep too, setting us up for the day ahead.  We loved exploring the different areas and spaces, and behind the lodges found a lovely winding path through pretty woodland alongside a stream, where we found these stunning rhododendrons.

But up near the car park, the girls' favourite were these enormous giant rhubarb leaves, behind which a little waterfall was hidden.  They created a rather interesting dance routine to entertain us after dinner!

With apartments, cottages, lodges and hotel rooms, the Tregenna Castle Resort has the perfect pad for everyone.  And with so much to explore on site, you won't have time to get bored, unless you want to be.  We loved the fantastic location which offers culture, art, shopping, and beautiful beaches a stone's throw away in St Ives itself, as well as around the surrounding area with the attractions of Lands' End, Penzance, St Michael's Mount and all that west Cornwall has to offer on the doorstep.  A great base, with all the activities and comforts you need.
